Know Your Numbers Week 2026
This is a national campaign encouraging people to check their blood pressure and understand what their numbers mean.
High blood pressure often has no symptoms, which is why it is sometimes called the “silent killer”. The only way to know if your blood pressure is high is to have it checked.
Throughout Know Your Numbers Week, our Sport and Active Lifestyles team will be offering FREE drop-in wellbeing checks for members and the wider community. Checks are quick, usually taking around 5–10 minutes, and include:
- Blood pressure check
- Brief lifestyle and physical activity conversation
- Immediate feedback and signposting to further support where appropriate
Pop along to one of our sessions next week and take a few minutes to know your numbers.
Would you know if your blood pressure was dangerously high?
At one of our workplace wellbeing events, a gentleman came along for a routine wellbeing check with us. He felt completely well and had no symptoms but his blood pressure reading was over 190/120. This put him at significant risk of a heart attack or stroke.
After speaking with our team, he contacted his GP and was seen within hours because of his initial reading. Later that day, he was admitted to hospital for further monitoring and testing, and was started on blood pressure medication.
Without that quick check, his high blood pressure may have gone undetected. His story is a powerful reminder that high blood pressure often has no symptoms. The only way to know is to have it checked.
This week, as part of Know Your Numbers Week, we’re offering FREE drop-in blood pressure checks for members and the wider community:
- Thursday 10 September — Dukeries Leisure Centre, 9:30am to 1:30pm
- Friday 11 September — Blidworth Leisure Centre, 9:30am to 1:30pm
No booking needed, just pop in, take a few minutes and know your numbers.
